The Unique Miniatures polyester products permit a degree of adaptability and flexibility not found in other materials. Consequently, these items, with properties similar to hardwood, can be sawed, sanded, filled and drilled. In addition, they are pliable when warmed in an ordinary oven to 80 degrees. However, do not attempt to bend them if they have not been heated and the ambient temperature is cooler than 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Unique Miniatures items can be painted with both oil and acrylic based paints. Staining is possible, but experiment first with various techniques and materials. Since the polyester product has a strong whitener added to the resin, it is a good idea to cover the piece first with an undercoat of darker color. This allows the stain to "grab onto" something and a lighter application will not "bleed through". Of course, this is not necessary when staining the polyurethane fireplaces since they are sold with a brown color and staining is relatively easy.Most of the Unique Miniatures items listed are good on one side only. Be careful particularly with such pieces as windows and doors. In a dollhouse where the window can be seen from both sides, we do not advise using these items. Any top quality adhesive (such as epoxy glue) can be used. If any pieces should chip from sawing or mitering, don't fear. The defects can be adroitly filled using any commercial vinyl spackling compound available at all hardware and paint stores.Look carefully at all of the Unique Miniatures line - and let your imagination take over.
